Public Affairs Center, University of Illinois at Springfield

This 250,000 s.f. university building accommodates diverse functions including food service, offices, laboratories, studios, conference areas, classrooms and performing arts.
To conform to the predetermined triangulated University Master Plan, this structure was organized within three triangularly located hexagonal towers, each providing vertical circulation and utilities. Side three of the equilateral triangle is formed by the performing arts element, which culminates in a four-story grand foyer skylight atrium. A two thousand seat auditorium, used as a primary community facility as well as for university functions, utilizes "acoustical tuning banners" to accommodate performances ranging from speakers and dramatic presentations through musical productions.
