Old State Capitol Renovation

Originally constructed in 1837, the Old State Capitol has been modified extensively throughout its life. In the early 1960's the decision was made by the State of Illinois to restore the building to its 1858 appearance. The ensuing restoration project involved dismantling and rebuilding the original stone over a new structural system, the recreation of the offices, House and Senate Chambers, and other interior spaces, and the creation of underground offices and parking.
